About Us

GU`s History

Galkayo University(GU) is established in Galkayo, the capital city of the Mudug region of Somalia, With the sole objective to contribute and develop the educational provisions of high educations necessary for the inhabitants of the Galmudug region, its surrounding provinces, and ultimately all over Somalia.
Galkayo University is administered by Mudug Foundation for Education Development (MUFED) which is set up by 55 Somali professionals in Somalia and outside Somalia (doctors, engineers, lecturers, teachers, lawyers, computer scientists, business people, and other respected individuals) founded Galkayo University.

The top management is experienced in academic leadership.
Galkayo University arose after the Somali professionals from Central Somalia of Galmudug State realized that a huge number of secondary students are finishing their studies during the next few years and will have no chance for higher education and that will have a profound impact on the whole of the population of the region and as a result will drastically affect the development of the country in general. In addition, the growing of the regional population due to the endless chaos and fights in the Capital City Mogadishu caused huge problems to the already creeping situation of the region.

University Mission

GU has been established on the board of Trustee’s principles of creating and disseminating knowledge as well as empowering students to thrive in their Professions. The mission of GU is to educate and develop the whole student, not only his/ her intellect The University dedicates itself to enhancing the interest and the well-being of the Somali people.

  • To produce high-quality professionals in their respective fields of specialism who will contribute to the economic and social development of the country.
